About us Über uns

Who we are.

The German-American Society of Münster (Deutsch-Amerikanische Gesellschaft Münster e.V.) has been bringing people from Germany and the United States together since 1984. We are a nonprofit, independent association, open to anyone with an interest in America.

Friendship between two countries starts at kitchen tables, not in capital cities.

What matters to us Was uns wichtig ist

Meeting as equals

Begegnung auf Augenhöhe

We don't talk about countries, we talk with people. Nobody who joins us has to represent anything or stand for anyone. Curiosity is enough.

Culture is what you share

Kultur ist das, was man teilt

Language, food, holidays, humor. You don't learn most of it from books. You learn it because someone invites you in.

Exchange that changes you

Austausch, der etwas verändert

For a long time, American students spent a summer in Münster living with host families. We want to pick that tradition back up.

It does the most for young people. Spend a few weeks on the other side and you see both countries differently afterwards. That is why we award a scholarship for a school year in the USA (German).

Sister cities Partnerstädte

Münster Fresno

Münster has a sister city in California. For us that is more than a line in the town hall records, because it describes what we are about: two places have something to do with each other because people made something of it.

The official city partnership is run by the Partnerschaftsverein Münster-Fresno. We look after everything German-American beyond that.

Whether you want to join in, host a student, or simply ask a question: a short email is enough.
