Thanksgiving
Every year on the fourth Thursday in November we celebrate Thanksgiving American style. We hold our Thanksgiving party in a former barn. The opulent buffet offers enormous smoked turkeys, wonderful salads, many American dishes and yummy desserts prepared by members and guests. And naturally after such a terrific dinner, we work it all off with square dancing. Professional square-dance teachers quickly show us the right steps for a variety of dances and when necessary untangle our arms and legs. We have a blast! After the square-dance workout we usually have a tricky quiz with questions about American and German history, geography and culture. The winning teams are awarded prizes.
Ashly Bills performing the ...Thanksgiving 2012
Nearly 100 members, friends and guests including many Americans and 25 students of the Münster universities arrived at Paolbürgerhof in Münster for our traditional Thanksgiving Party on the fourth Thursday in November, the 22nd of November 2012, at 7 p.m.  Following the welcome of our Chairman Prof. Martin Korda, in which he included some greetings of the Lord Mayor of the City of Münster, unfortunately unable to come, we listened again Ashly Bills performing the National Anthem of the USA. The buffet was declared open and turkeys raised up in Westfalia and smoked and roasted in a Wolbeck butcher shop were cut in portions before everybodies eyes. The marvelous roast together with the donated salads and the magnificent American sweets and cakes made our American friends in particular nearly feel at home. An American guitar artist Mr. David de Groat then pleased the audience with some pieces from the classical jazz period. After that there was a call for Square Dance, which was conducted as in many years before but this year for the last time by Mrs. and Mr. Kemming.  Even for those who never before had tried Square Dance it became full success because of the new caller Mr. Holzhäuser. Following first missteps there was more and more success to combine rhythm and steps with the country music. And all of that before the painted Münster scenery in the Paolbürgerhof, which gave everyone a great experience. The Americans still had phone contacts late in the night with their families back in the states, where Thanksgiving only started and when our party was finished already.
The new locality, the ...Thanksgiving Party 2011
After having available some pictures finally there can be given somehow late a short report on the traditional Thanksgiving Party of the DAG Münster 2011. For the first time in a new locality –  the Paohlbürgerhof zu Münster - Prof. Martin Korda could welcome 70 members and guestst including 23 American ánd German students on Thursday November 24th at 7 p.m.. Following the American Anthem, presented again and now as well already traditionally by the American student Ashley Bills and a silent minute of commemoration the party was opened by the entry of the roasted turkeys. Additional there were a number of salads and desserts provided by the participants in good Thanksgiving tradition. Square Dance masterly teached as always by Mrs. and Mr. Kemming and the traditional quiz with tricky German-American questions rounded the party off. The new locality generally was praised very much by all participants.
Ashly Bills presents the ...Thanksgiving 2010
The 4th Thursday in November – ruled by the US Congress in 1941 – is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, so too for the German American Society Münster as always with Turkey and Square Dance in
Henry’s Poltertenne. Although this year for the first time students too had been asked to contribute a fee, 20 students participated at this party. After welcoming about 55 participants, members and guests, including a number of Americans and numerous German and American students by Second Chairman Jim Martin - bad weather had hindered some to participate - the American Anthem was presented brilliantly as in the years before by the American student Ashley Bills. Jim Martin asked everyone for a silent minute of commemoration and the party was opened by the entry of the roasted turkeys. Additional there were a number of salads and desserts provided by the participants in good Thanksgiving tradition. Square Dance masterly teached as always by Mrs. and Mr. Kemming and the traditional quiz with tricky German-American questions rounded the party off.
Welcome by Prof.M. Korda ...Thanksgiving 2009
The 4th Thursday in November – ruled so by the US Congress in 1941 – is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, so too for the German American Society Münster as always with Turkey and Square Dance in Henry’s Poltertenne. Welcoming about 90 participants, members and guests, including a number of Americans and numerous German and American students Chairman Prof. Korda including other statements regretted the cancellation of an up to this year usual grant by the WWU Münster and asked the participants “to feed” the piggy bank of the society. Following the American Anthem, presented brilliantly as the year before by the American student Ashley Bills, and a prayer the party was opened by the entry of the roasted turkeys. Additional there were a number of salads and desserts provided by the participants in good Thanksgiving tradition. Square Dance masterly teached as always by Mrs. and Mr. Kemming and the traditional quiz with tricky German-American questions rounded the party off. At the end of the evening we were asked by many students, who so far had been our guests without paying a fee, not to let this party tradition die by cost reasons only.
